Šibenik – is located in the central part of the Croatian coast in the picturesque indented bay that is also a delta of Krka River. The bay is entered through a narrow winding channel which makes Šibenik an excellent protected harbour. Šibenik was first mentioned in 1066 year, and in the year 1290 it is declared with the status as city, together with the establishment of the Sibenik Diocese. With its unique location, the city was the driver of all maritime affairs and trade. At the entrance to the channel is the most important Renaissance fortress on the eastern coast of the Adriatic – the fortress of St. Nicholas, which was built in the mid sixteenth century for the purpose of defence from the conquerors, with its triangular shape and was built to the designs of the Venetian military architect Michele Sammichella. From all sacral buildings is particularly worth highlighting the Cathedral of St. Jakov, which was built during the period of 100 years and is therefore a symbol of persistence, sacrifice and devotion of many generations of inhabitants of Šibenik. The Cathedral is a special architectural wonder that is whole made of stone and with a very demanding construction with 71 realistic portrait of the apses. At the edge of the bay is the National park Krka and Skradinski buk, the island Visovac and Roski waterfall. Skradinski Buk is one of the most popular destinations with its travertine cascades / waterfalls, lakes and islands. If you visit Šibenik you should definitely go to the Krka National Park and experience the infinite beauty where one can arrive by yacht as well.
