Šolta – is located right opposite the city of Split and has long been unknown as a tourist destination and historically has been a favourite destination of Emperor Diocletian, queen Teuta. The island was inhabited in Illyrian and his popularity has grown during the Romans who spent vacations on the island. The island has a rich historical material and here sites of prehistory are found, as well as antiquity, and early Christianity. The island is known for fishing and the Emperor Diocletian use to get the fish exclusively from Šolta. On Šolta there are over 200 historical findings of the sarcophagus, from Roman mosaics to the early Christian basilicas. With its 71.3 km long coastline there is plenty of bays and beaches from which we can extract the beaches in Nečujam, Stomorska, Maslinica. In each of the five towns on the island (Rogač, Nečujam, Stomorska, Maslinica, Grohote) we nice restaurants / konoba’s can be found where you can enjoy traditional Dalmatian cuisine and of course the wines. During the season Šolta offers many events among which we can highlight the famous fisherman’s parties where visitors can try all sorts of local delicacies.
