Vis – the most remote Croatian island situated between Hvar and Biševo. The first inhabitants date back to the III millennium BC. And in 397 years. BC  Vis island is inhabited and founded by colony tyrant of Syracuse called Demetrius, who founded the town of Issa, today called Vis. From 219 years BC Vis was ruled by the Romans, however, by the fall of the Roman Empire (476 yrs.) island was influenced by many different rulers like the Goths, Byzantines, Venetians, French, English, while the whole time the island was inhabited by Croatian population that arrived on the island in the VII century. Vis has always been an island of fishermen and winegrowers and town of Korčula is considered to be the cradle of fishing in the Adriatic. Fishing history bears witness to the fishing museum in Komiža. It is mentioned that the first vines on the Adriatic was brought by Greeks on Vis. The most famous white wine of Vis is Vugava which you can try throughout the island in taverns and restaurants that also serves fish of exceptional quality. If we add to this that the island is rich with beautiful beaches and secluded bays and islands, it is clear why this is the favorite destination for many world travellers. With its two settlements Komiža and Vis island is also boasted with the islands archipelago facing the open sea (Brusnik , Jabuka, Sv. Andrija, Palagruža) and as a special excursion spot we can point out the attraction on Biševo – Blue Cave with a unique phenomenon. Between 11 and 12 hours the sun’s rays enter the cave underwater, and thereby create unreal blue that illuminates the surrounding rocks at a depth of 16 m.
