In Zadar the world famous drink Maraschino was created which is in the organic liqueur produced from the autochthonous Maraska cherries and which dates back to the 16th century, which production originates back when pharmacists from the Dominican monastery named Rosolj (Sunčana rosa) stardet it, and was only later known under the name which it now carries – the “Maraschino”. It was the favourite drink of Napoleon, French kings Louis XVIII, Charles X, Louis Philippe, the Russian Emperor Nicholas, the British King George V, Queen Victoria. We can simply say that the maraschino was a drink of the world’s elite and carries the nickname as diplomatic drink. In order not to end up this story only with liqueur, we also invite you to try the specialties that are prepared in numerous restaurants and taverns in Zadar.
